Winthrop’s Cooks Named To NABC All-District 3 First Team

ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop standout forward Xavier Cooks has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches 2017-18 Division I All-District 3 Team.


Cooks had a career-year in helping the Eagles to a 19-12 mark this season as he surpassed several milestones and inked his name in Winthrop and Big South Conference history. He was voted the Big South Conference Player of the Year and earned All-Conference First Team honors for a second straight season. He became the first ever Big South player with 1,500 points, 800 rebounds, 200 assists, 175 blocks and 100 steals in a career.


The Wollongong, Australia native enjoyed one of the greatest individual careers in the history of the Winthrop men’s basketball program. Cooks finished third all-time in program history with 1,778 points and first all-time in rebounds with 983. He also leaves the program as the all-time leader in career blocks with 221.


Cooks was 1-of-5 Big South players selected between the two teams in District 3 and 1-of-3 on the first team. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division I, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America.
