Coastal Picks up Road Win at Little Rock, 65-60

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Coastal Carolina had four players reach double digits in picking up a 65-60 road win at Little Rock.

 

Jaylen Shaw led the Chanticleers with 15 points. Tyrell Gumbs-Frater came off the bench and for the second consecutive game reached double digits with 14 points. He hit four three point field goals on his way to his point total.

 

Demario Beck added 11 points and picked up nine rebounds. Arthur Labinowicz scored 10 points.

 

The Chants (13-16, 7-8 Sun Belt) had a rough night shooting the ball, finishing the game hitting 33 percent of their shots. They hit eight of its 24 three point attempts for 33 percent and while they hit 23 free throws, they attempted 34 for 68 percent.

 

The Chants out rebounded Little Rock 40-36 with Zac Cuthbertson leading the way with a team-high 10.

 

Little Rock (6-22, 3-12 Sun Belt) shot 40 percent from the field and Ben Marcus came off the bench to score 15. He also completed a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds.

 

Anthony Black scored 11 points and Cameron Corcoran also added 11.

 

CCU continually pounded the ball inside and scored 24 points in the paint compared to six for Little Rock.  CCU also did a good job taking care of the ball and only committed eight turnovers while forcing 11.

 

CCU only shot 37 percent in the first half with Beck leading the way with nine points. Gumbs-Frater came off the bench to add six.

 

The Chants hit six of its 14 three point field goals, but struggled at the free throw line only making five of 10.

 

Little Rock shot 38 percent in the opening 20 minutes with Corcoran and Marcus each scoring six.

 

The Chanticleers will continue the current trip when they play at Arkansas State Saturday, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m.
