How It Happened
Vanderbilt got on the board early with a three-run first inning. A pair of walks put two on with two outs for Philip Clarke, who hit his first career home run with a drive to left field to put Vanderbilt in front, 3-0.
The Commodores added a lone run in the third and fourth innings. Ethan Paul drew a leadoff walk in the third, before stealing second and moving to third on a flyout. An RBI groundout by Julian Infante scored him to make it 4-0. In the fourth, Alonzo Jones singled to right, stole second, moved to third on a flyout and scored on an error to make it 5-0.
Two more came across for Vandy in the sixth. Austin Martin drew a one-out walk, stole second and moved to third on a single by Connor Kaiser. A wild pitch then allowed Martin to score and Kaiser to move to second and two batters Pat DeMarco doubled to left center to drive in Kasier to make it 7-0.
Vanderbilt then tacked on two in the seventh and six in the eighth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Kaiser singled to center to drive in a pair of unearned runs in the seventh. The Commodores got six runs on four hits and two PC errors in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
