Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men’s and women’s basketball teams ushered in the 2017-18 season in style Thursday evening when the two teams hosted Midnight Madness from the G.B. Hodge Center.
Upstate fans had their first opportunity to meet the teams and were treated to an entertaining evening that featured music from DJ Sweatt, scrimmages from both teams and other various competitions.
The evening began with the introduction of both teams as well as two four-minute scrimmages. Players from both teams then competed in a 3-point competition followed by two contests consisting of both men’s and women’s basketball student-athletes and USC Upstate students.
Junior forward Malik Moore amazed the crowd with three high-flying dunks that lifted him to victory in the slam dunk competition over teammates Thomas Booker, Deion Holmes and Andrew Tate.
Both teams begin their 2017-18 season on the road next Friday, Nov. 10. The women’s team plays at East Carolina with an 8 p.m. tipoff while the men’s team also plays at 8 p.m. against Minnesota.
