CINCINNATI, Ohio – College of Charleston sophomore Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.) shot rounds of 70 and 71 and is 1-under par after 36 holes of play at the 2017 Bearcat Invitational held at the Coldstream Country Club on Monday.
Sass, the 2017 Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year, made eight birdies combined in both rounds and is tied for 23rd individually.
“Today, I really did not know what to expect from this team,” CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. “We were a little nervous in the morning out of the gates, but I thought we settled down and had it in a good spot through the round. We ended up playing that last two holes in the morning at +8, which put us behind the eight-ball.”
On the team leaderboard, the Cougars are tied for 11th with Xavier shooting a two-round score of 576 (+8). Kentucky leads the tournament field with a 547 (-21) and Arkansas is in second with a 551 (-17).
“I was happy with our second round,” McEntire said. “I thought that Jake (Budde) and Raphael (Geissler) gave us nice rounds (first under-par rounds as Cougars) and Mike Sass played solid. Tomorrow, the goal is to move up as much as we can and continue to get our guys rounds in competition. I really think this team is going to be special.”
Tomorrow’s final round will be tee times off the No. 1 beginning at 8:35 a.m. (ET) and the Cougars will be paired with Xavier and Akron. Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com.
