Spartanburg, S.C. – Former USC Upstate men’s golfer Brad Sill will make his PGA Tour debut this weekend after qualifying for the Barbasol Championship on Monday at The Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala.
He is the first Upstate golfer in program history to qualify for a PGA Tour event.
Sill, who turned pro in 2013, fired a score of 68 on Monday, then beat Joaquin Niemann, Jimmy Beck, Joel Sawyer and Glenn Northcutt in a playoff. The Barbasol Championship will begin Thursday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Grand National course in Opelika, Alabama. Sill tees off at 9:10 a.m. local time on Thursday.
The Spartanburg native competed as a Spartan from 2010-13 after transferring from Winthrop. He appeared in 28 events at Upstate and registered one victory along with five top-10 and two top-5 finishes. He won the Forest Hills Intercollegiate on Feb. 23, 2013 after shooting a career-low round of 66 and finished at 8-under par.
Sill compiled 17 rounds of par or better in his career and had a season-best scoring average of 74.17 in 2010-11. His career scoring average of 75.13 as a Spartan ranks sixth all-time.
