FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University softball coach Stacey Vallee has announced the signing of outfielder Caroline Heaton of Gaston, S.C., who will transfer to FMU after playing one season at Spartanburg Methodist College.
Heaton, a 5-7 right-handed hitter, batted .452 in 19 games last year with a homer, 10 runs batted in, a .469 on-base percentage, and a .645 slugging percentage. The Pioneers posted a 55-11 overall record, went unbeaten in conference play, and advanced to the NJCAA World Series.
She was a Dean’s List student each of her two semesters at SMC.
Heaton is a graduate of the Gray Collegiate Academy and also attended Brookland-Cayce High School. She played club softball with the SC Jets organization.
“We are excited to add Caroline to our roster,” Vallee said. “She is the type of player every coach wants. She understands school is a priority and she has academic goals. She wants to get stronger, understands hard work, and wants to learn. What could be better than that? She hit well last year and we hope that carries over to the 2017 season.”
Heaton joins a 2016 recruiting class that numbers 10. The Patriots lost six seniors off last year’s 34-21 squad that posted the program’s highest win total in seven seasons.
